The Gig

We're looking for a News Editor to lead our content crew. You're not just correcting grammar; you're the person who shapes our daily voice and decides what stories need to be told. You’ll guide our team of writers, ensuring everything we publish is sharp, accurate, and has that signature Akhayar spark. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and love being at the center of the action, this is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the daily content huddle, spotting the most important and interesting stories of the day.
  • Polish and punch up stories, making sure they're clear, correct, and compelling before they go live.
  • Mentor our reporters, helping them find unique angles and grow their storytelling skills.
  • Be the final checkpoint for quality, facts, and fairness—no fake news on your watch.
  • Work with our video and social teams to make sure our stories pop on every platform.
  • Keep an eye on what’s trending and use analytics to understand what our audience loves.

Who You Are

  • You have experience leading a content team or have been a senior writer/reporter in a digital media space.
  • You're a master of the Burmese language with top-notch writing and editing skills.
  • You're a natural leader who can inspire a team and keep cool when news breaks.
  • You have a strong sense of what’s right, ethically and journalistically.
  • You're plugged into the pulse of Myanmar and have a sixth sense for what makes a great story.
